Gardaí in Kanturk, Co Cork, have advised motorists to avoid the Mallow to Killarney road this afternoon after a serious collision between an oil tanker and a car.
The road has been closed at Ballymacquirke Corss since the crash at 11.45am.
Two people have been injured and gardaí together and other emergency services are still at the scene.
"If possible when travelling in the area an alternative route should be taken as the closeure will remain in force for a number of hours," a statement from the Garda press office said.
