Two gardaí have been suspended pending an investigation into an alleged drinking offence outside the US embassy, it emerged today.
A superintendent is heading the internal inquiry into the alleged actions of one of the garda who was on plain-clothes armed duty at the embassy in Ballsbridge last weekend.
It is understood the garda could also face criminal charges arising from allegations of drink driving on the same day.
Gardaí operate 24-hour security outside the Ballsbridge embassy, while internal security is manned by the US military.
