About £1.5 million worth of cannabis resin was seized by gardai yesterday following searches in the Glasnevin area of Dublin. Members of the Garda National Drugs Unit stopped and searched a car at Prospect Square at 4 p.m. yesterday and discovered approximately 100 kilos of the drug in the vehicle. A Dublin man in his forties was arrested and was last night being detained at Santry Garda Station.

In a follow-up search of a house on the north side of the city, a further 50 kilos of cannabis resin was found. A woman and two men were arrested at the house and were also being held at Santry Garda Station under the Criminal Justice Drug Trafficking Act 1997.

Meanwhile, Gardai seized the heroin substitute physeptone and over £35,000 in cash after searches of houses in the Duleek area of Co Meath yesterday morning. Gardai believe the money is the proceeds of drug-related activity.

Four men were arrested and taken to Drogheda and Navan Garda stations. Three men were arrested in the first search where the physeptone was recovered with the cash. A fourth man was arrested in a second house. All were held under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.
