The 24-year-old man who died following a two-car collision outside Killorglin in the early hours of this morning has been named as Mr John Paul O'Brien of 42 Balloonagh Estate, Tralee.

Mr O'Brien died when the Opel Astra he was driving collided head-on with a Volkswagen Caravelle taxi.

He had been attending the Puck Fair Festival in Killorglin.

The accident occurred at around 3.25 a.m., on a straight stretch of road two miles outside Killorglin on the main Killorglin to Killarney road.

Mr O'Brien was alone in the car and he died at the scene.

The driver of the taxi suffered minor injuries.

Gardai in Killorglin have appealed for witnesses, especially anyone driving along that section of the road between 3.15 a.m. and 3.30 a.m., yesterday to contact them on 066-9761113.
