GARDAÍ HAVE named the man who died following a road crash in Co Limerick on Monday as Jude Higgins (34), Ballincronna, Knocklong, Co Limerick.
He was a passenger in a van that collided with a truck at Newtown, Bruff, on Monday evening.
Two other male occupants of the van were brought to Limerick Regional Hospital. Their condition is described as stable. The driver of the truck was not injured.
Mr Higgins’s death brings to six the number of people who have died on the State’s roads this week. Two men died following a single-vehicle crash in Co Tipperary on Tuesday morning when their pick-up truck hit a tree at Ballysheehan, Cashel. They were named as John O’Brien (35) and Mark Darcy (26), both from Cahir.
In Co Galway, two men died and three women were injured in a crash between a car and a bus on Monday night.
Pawel Pietraszczyk (32) and Mark Forys (19), both Bachelor’s Walk, Ashbourne, Co Meath, died in the crash near Aughrim on the Loughrea to Ballinasloe road.
Separately, gardaí are investigating an incident at Westbourne Park, Cork, on Monday in which a man was killed when the car he was attempting to push rolled and trapped him against a wall.
Kevan Malone (21) from Castletroy, Limerick, was taken to hospital but was later pronounced dead. His funeral takes place today.
