Gardaí have named the man (21) stabbed to death in Monaghan last Sunday morning as Mindaugas Janavicius.

Gardaí have named the man (21) stabbed to death in Monaghan last Sunday morning as Mindaugas Janavicius.

The Lithuanian man, who had been living in Fermanagh, was stabbed several times in the chest during a party at a house on Roslea Road in Clones.

Gardaí had been called to the house an hour earlier after a complaint was made about a party at the flat that had continued into the morning.

They left, were called back again after a report of an altercation, and found the man dead at 9.15am.

Reports at the weekend suggested that the man had been murdered by a number of men known to him, possibly from Lithuania. Gardaí are investigating the possibility that the killer or killers may have fled over the Border.

A Garda spokeswoman today said a number of lines of inquiry are being followed.
