Gardai make first ever seizure of rock heroin

A Garda spokesman said the heroin was in rocks, which is the purest known form of the drug. It is the first seizure of rock heroin in Ireland, he said.

The drugs were uncovered in a field beside Le Fanu Park this morning following a week-long surveillance operation.

Fifteen gardaí from Ballyfermot, aided by Garda search teams from Clondalkin and the Garda dog unit carried out a search of the area t around 9.00 a.m. this morning.

The drugs were found buried up to three feet underground.

No arrests have been made and investigations are continuing.

The drugs have been sent to Garda Headquarters for examination.
