Gardaí in Limerick are investigating an incident in which an explosive device was left on the window ledge of a house in the Southill area of the city early this morning.

The incident happened shortly after 12.45am this morning in Sunnyside Court. The house was occupied at the time but there are no reports of any injuries. Two vehicles parked nearby were damaged.

Two men, described as tall and thin, were seen running from the scene. The scene is being preserved for technical examination.

Gardaí are also investigating an attack in the Janesboro area of the city on Sunday afternoon that saw a young family narrowly escape injury when a hand grenade was thrown into the front room of its home.
