Gardaí hold gun suspect in Dublin

Gardaí in are questioning a man after he was found with a loaded semi-automatic handgun on a Dublin street last night.

Gardaí in are questioning a man after he was found with a loaded semi-automatic handgun on a Dublin street last night.

The man was stopped and searched at Charleville Avenue, in the north inner city, shortly after 11pm, a Garda statement said.

The search was part of an ongoing operation targeting serious crime in Dublin city centre.

Detectives arrested the man and he is being held at Store Street Garda station under section 30 of the Offences Against The State Act.

He can be held for up to 72 hours.
