Gardai display weapons haul from amnesty

A selection of guns surrendered under the weapons amnesty were displayed at Garda headquarters in Dublin today.

Almost 350 guns and knives and other weapons were handed in under the two-month amnesty which ended yesterday.

The haul included a musket, a theatre pistol used on stage, a stun gun, 12 crossbows, six swords, 11 starting pistols and one humane killer, a gun used to kill animals in abattoirs.

People who failed to avail of the amnesty and continue to hold weapons illegally could now face harsh penalties.
