Gardaí were last night continuing to question a man in connection with the murder of a Dublin man who was shot dead in a city centre pub two weeks ago. The man, who is in his 40s, was arrested at 12.30pm on Saturday on Meath Street in the south inner city.

Gardaí have been anxious to speak to him since the murder of Jimmy Curran on April 3rd. The champion kick-boxer was shot in the head as he was drinking in the Green Lizard pub on Francis Street by a lone gunman who was not masked. They believe the gunman was seen by up to 30 other customers in the pub who would have recognised him.

Although detectives had already questioned eight people in relation to the murder and sent a file to the DPP, none of those questioned before the weekend was a suspect for the killing.

However, the man being questioned last night is a suspect. Gardaí had been trying to locate him since the murder and it is believed officers moved in to arrest him as he attended a family function on Saturday. He is being held at Kevin Street Garda station.

The dead man, Jimmy Curran (42), was from the south inner city but had been living in Santry with his wife and two children. He trained young people in martial arts in a room above a takeaway about 300 metres from the Green Lizard.

He was not involved in crime and gardaí believe he may have been targeted by a man known to him because of a personal grudge.
