Gardaí in Limerick are continuing a full-scale murder investigation following the discovery of the body of Mr Robert Fitzgerald (23) in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Mr Fitgerald's body was found in the College Avenue area of the Moyross estate by a passer-by at about 6.30 a.m.

Early indications suggest Mr Fitgerald was shot in the back of the head, but gardaí are awaiting the results of a post-mortem before confirming the exact cause of death.

Gardaí confirmed the dead man had been at a party before his death and was last seen at 3 a.m.

Gardaí are trying to establish a motive for the murder and said that they had no information to suggest it was linked to the recent shootings or ongoing feud in the area.
