The aftermath of a plane crash is to be created tomorrow by gardaí and members of the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) as part of a training exercise in the Leitrim/Fermanagh border area.

The exercise is part of a project on joint emergency management by law enforcement agencies in EU member states in response to criminal acts which occur at or near international borders.

The exercise will involve a plane crash close to the border with casualties lying on both sides which will precipitate a joint investigation between the Garda and PSNI. A certain amount of debris similar to that of plane wreckage will also be placed at the scene.

A Garda spokeswoman told ireland.comthat the "exercise would be as close to reality as possible".
