Garda Niamh Nic Thaidgh, from Westmeath, has been awarded this year's Foras na Gaeilge silver medal for displaying most interest in the Irish language at the Garda College, Templemore, Co Tipperary.

Mr Antoine Coilean, of Foras na Gaeilge, is to make the presentation at today's ceremony at which 150 Garda recruits are to receive certificates in police studies. Garda Nic Thaidgh is a native of Mullingar, Co Westmeath, and is stationed in Clonmel.
