Chief Supt Denis Fitzpatrick said last night he welcomed the new opportunities and challenges which would arise from his transfer to the Traffic Bureau.
A statement issued on his behalf by the Chief Superintendents Staff Association, said Chief Supt Fitzpatrick "fully understands that recent times have been fraught and difficult but he looks forward to the time when full confidence and trust will be restored".
The statement added: "He understands that transfers of this nature no matter how difficult on a personal basis are necessary to ensure that the current process of investigation and decision-making is concluded in a manner, which conveys confidence and impartiality to the public at large. He gives this process his full support. In conclusion, he does not wish to prejudice the findings of any outcome either judicial or administrative and he wishes for a speedy and satisfactory conclusion to the events".
