A female garda was injured today after she became trapped under a 30ft-long wooden hoarding blown over by storm force winds in north Dublin.
Gales this morning knocked down the barrier which was being used to block off a construction site just off the N32 Malahide Road.
The hoarding toppled over onto the road as the officer was walking past, hitting her and pinning her to the ground.
She was taken to Beaumont Hospital with leg injuries which are not thought to be serious. The road was closed for several hours as a result.
Meanwhile, flights in and out of Dublin Airport were disrupted along with ferry sailings. Seven scheduled flights into the airport were diverted while several other flights out were cancelled.
AA Roadwatch are warning of dangerous driving conditions due to flooding and debris on the roads.
Its Web site says: "As its also extremely windy in all parts, motorists should watch out for debris blowing across roads. High sided vehicles should pay particular attention when driving on high ground and on exposed roads
Met Eireann says stormy conditions with winds of up to 140 or 150 km/h could cause further damage. Heavy rain with hail and thunderstorms in places will lead to further flooding.
The conditions will moderate overnight but will be slower to abate in northern parts.
