Gardaí are investigating an attempted robbery in Dublin last night in which a garda was injured.
The plainclothes garda was hurt when he intervened to prevent a robbery at a shop on South Circular Road at about 7pm.
He was passing the shop when he saw a masked man, who is believed to have been armed with a knife, jump over the counter and threaten staff.
The garda, who is in his early 30s, intervened and was slashed in the face. He was taken to St James's Hospital where he was treated for facial injuries.
The robber escaped from the scene in a small red car, thought to be a Honda Civic. Shortly afterwards, a car fitting this description was discovered a short distance away on Connolly Avenue.
