The parties involved in the Garda representative dispute would not comment last night on their first day of talks under the chairmanship of ICTU general secretary, Mr Peter Cassells. The meeting between the Garda Representative Association and the Garda Federation, which began at 2.30 p.m., was expected to continue late into the evening.

Neither Mr P.J. Stone, deputy secretary of the GRA, nor Mr Chris Finnegan, general secretary of the federation, were involved.
