Gardaí believe that a man who fell into the docks at Galway at the weekend was the victim of an accident. The Assistant State Pathologist, Dr Marie Cassidy, examined the body of the man, who has been named as Mr Gerard Mannion of Glenamaddy, Co Galway, writes Lorna Siggins.

Witnesses at the scene believe Mr Mannion may have been running to assist two people who had fallen into the water, but gardaí have not been able to confirm this.

A young woman fell into the docks early on Sunday, and a man went to rescue her.
