A new gallery specialising in the work of contemporary artists has opened in west Cork. It is believed to be the first in Ireland to focus solely on digital technology and art.
The Gallery for Innovative Contemporary Artists specialises in art created through computing and allied technologies.
The opening show, running through the summer from today, features the work of Dublin-based Nathaniel Stern, whose tool of choice is a basic Hewlett-Packard scanner, and Cork-based Paul La Rocque, who collates imagery from the internet.
The gallery, located in Kilbrittain, features work from artists who use scanners, the web, software code and other components of the digital world.
They are part of a new generation of artists determined to reconnect technologically-inspired art with the public, according to the gallery's founder, Haydn Shaughnessy, who is a freelance writer.
"Most applications of computing have some form of negative impact on our lives. However, technology can also be used to create evocative art which inspires," Mr Shaughnessy said.
The work can be seen at www.galleryica.com and the show continues until late September.
