Defender William Gallas is set to sign a new four-year contract with Chelsea, according to his agent.

Gallas, who only last week expressed his dissatisfaction with life at Stamford Bridge, will extend a deal which still has three years to run when he returns from Confederations Cup duty with France.

"We have practically reached an agreement and after the Confederations Cup William will sign a new contract," said agent Pape Diouf, who reportedly met Chelsea chief executive Trevor Birch on Monday. "

It will happen," he told the London Evening Standard.

The highly rated central defender has been linked with many clubs following a season in which he played out of position at right back on a number of occassions.
