THE principal of a Gaelscoil in the Dublin area has been suspended after its board of management became aware of alleged irregularities in the school accounts.
At a meeting shortly before Christmas the board suspended the principal pending a satisfactory explanation. The board was not happy with the explanation given. The board's chairman resigned at the same meeting.
Gardai were then informed of the alleged irregularities. The office of the Catholic Archbishop of Dublin, the school's patron, was also informed. According to the rules of national schools, a management board can only remove a teacher with the patron's approval.
The principal has been asked to come back to a further board meeting later this month with a full explanation of the alleged irregularities.
