News round-up: Intercounty players will receive between €1,400 and €2,500 under the terms of the proposed Government awards scheme, the GAA revealed this morning.

With the Government providing some €3.5 million to be shared out among the players, the GAA intend to establish a National Scheme Committee which will assume authority for distributing the awards.

The amount an individual player receives will correspond to a county's progress in the hurling or football championships, with an upper limit of €2,500 being made available for players who reach an All-Ireland final.

The scheme - which will see funding made available on the basis of reimbursing expenses for the "additional costs associated with inter-county participation"  - will be debated at next month's GAA Congress in Sligo where it is hoped final approval will be secured.

Meanwhile, Dublin will meet Monaghan in their rescheduled National Football League on Sunday after the original tie was rained off at the weekend.

The Division Two top of the table clash will again take place in Parnell Park, which was waterlogged on Saturday night following a day of heavy rain in the capital, with a 2.30pm throw-in.
