An ex-police informer who had been accused of murdering Belfast solicitor Mr Pat Finucane faced a new charge when he appeared in court yesterday.

Mr William Stobie (49), from Forthriver Road, Belfast, is now charged "that he did aid and abet, counsel and procure" others to murder Mr Finucane, who was shot in front of his wife and family in 1989.

Mr Stobie had also faced a charge of murdering Adam Lambert, from Ballygawley, Co Tyrone, but it too has been changed to aiding and abetting others to commit the murder. Mr Lambert (19) was shot as he worked on a landscaping project in north Belfast in 1987.

A date for the trial has not been fixed.
