The funeral was held this afternoon of the two little sisters who were killed in a horrific incident last Sunday on the outskirts of Tuam.
Hundreds of mourners gathered for the Mass of the Angels for two-year-old Kate Gilmore and her 12-week-old sister, Grace.
Pink ribbons were worn by family and friends in memory of the girls, who died in a horrific car crash on the outskirts of their home town of Tuam, Co Galway, on Sunday.
In his homily, Fr Martin Gleeson told the Church of the Sacred Heart in Belclare that she sisters were saints in heaven.
He said their grief-stricken parents John and Michelle Gilmore, who were married in the same church four years ago, were courageous in carrying the heavy cross they have to bear.
"John and Michelle had two children to put to bed on Saturday night and they were left with two corpses on Sunday said Fr Gleeson. "That's the sad reality."
Twinkle Twinkle Little Star was played at the end of the service, which was co-celebrated by the Archbishop of Tuam, Dr Michael Neary.
The girls were later buried nearby in Killower Cemetery.
Kate and Grace were out for an afternoon stroll with their father when the accident happened on the hard shoulder of the N17.
Mr Gilmore and the driver of the car received minor injuries in the crash, which the priest said left the community in deep sorrow.
Gardaí have reissued their appeal for witnesses. It is believed the sole occupant of the Toyota Avensis car, who is also from Tuam, may have suffered a seizure.
Flowers, teddy bears and candles have been left at the scene of the crash.
The mayor of Galway city opened a book of condolences at County Hall, which will remain open for the rest of the week. Thousands queued to sign a book of condolences at the offices of Tuam Town Council yesterday, which remained open late into the evening to facilitate all those waiting.
