The Shannon Estuary Ports Authority at its meeting yesterday decided to protest against what was described as a catastrophic decision by the Government to "siphon off funds" intended for development of the Shannon estuary.

The chairman, Mr Bill Davoren, said £2.5 million of EU money which had been approved was intended for a £5 million joint project at Moneypoint, between the Harbour Authorities and the ESB.
