High drama and culture are in store this weekend with celebrations to mark the Chinese New Year coinciding with the start of the Jameson Dublin International Film Festival.
Dublin's Chinese New Year Festival will take place in Smithfield Plaza from 12.30pm to 4pm tomorrow. The festivities to mark the Year of the Pig include a "Chinatown" market with more than 20 stalls of Chinese products, including original water- colours, porcelain, furniture, replicas of Chinese dynastic pottery and herbal medicines.
Belfast's Chinese New Year celebrations take place on Tuesday at the Ulster Hall at 7.30pm, with performances from the Wind of Colourful Guizhou Dance Troupe and the Ulster Orchestra.
The fifth Jameson Dublin International Film Festival opened at the Savoy Cinema on O'Connell Street, Dublin, last night with Jindabyne, an Australian film by Ray Lawrence starring Gabriel Byrne.
It runs until February 25th, with more than 109 films being screened in four city-centre cinemas.
