A freight ferry became grounded about one mile off Liverpool yesterday morning after its engine cut out in unusually low water, P&O European Ferries have said.

The European Leader was sailing from Dublin to Liverpool and was due to arrive at about 7 a.m. when it became grounded at 6.15 a.m. It was dislodged from the sand bank when the water rose and arrived in Liverpool at 11.45 a.m.
