The North's Minister of Regional Development, Mr Peter Robinson, is planning to introduce free travel for pensioners in the new year.

Extending the current 50 per cent discount scheme for pensions would cost an estimated £10 million a year.

He told the BBC that while Northern Ireland people were entitled to free travel in the South, funds would not stretch to establish a reciprocal arrangement for pensioners from the Republic travelling around Northern Ireland.
