Four people were arrested today when the Garda intercepted a gang which it believed was about rob a cash-in-transit van.
Two men in their 20s and one man in his 30s were arrested at Knocklyon, Dublin this afternoon. A woman in her 20s was also arrrested as part of the operation.
It is understood that the robbery was planned to take place at the post office in Knocklyon .
Gardai also searched a car in the Knocklyon area from which they recovered a sawn-off shotgun and a sledge hammer.
The arrests were made as part of an ongoing Garda investigation into the activities of criminal gang sinvolved in ‘cash in transit’ robberies.
Detectiives from the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation led this afternoon’s operation.
The three men and a woman are being held tonight at Tallaght and Rathfarnham Garda Stations.
