Four RAF personnel were killed when two light aircraft crashed during a training exercise in south Wales today.

The two light aircraft crashed over Porthcawl, south Wales, just before 11am.

The crash site, near Kenfig Nature Reserve, is less than a mile from the M4 motorway and a mainline railway line.

Two rescue helicopters were scrambled, along with the South Wales Police Air Support Unit.

"I watched them for a few minutes and then the second one just hit him," one witness told the BBC. "I just couldn't believe it. At first there wasn't an explosion straight away but then there was. They just went down."
