Georgia - Fossil remains of two of the first Europeans - human-like creatures that lived 1.7 million years ago - have been unearthed from the site of a medieval fortress in Georgia, it was disclosed yesterday.

Scientists think the skull fossils belong to two of the first human ancestors to venture out of Africa into Asia and Europe.
