Bernard Ebbers, the former chief executive of WorldCom has been found guilty by a US court of fraud charges relating to the $11 billion accounting scandal at the telecommunications company.

Mr Ebbers (63) was also found guilty of conspiracy and filing false documents with regulators. He faces up to 85 years in prison when he is sentenced.

The New York jury reached its decision on one of the world's most sensational accounting scandal after eight days of deliberations. He was convicted of one count of conspiracy, one count of securities fraud and seven counts of filing false statements with securities regulators.
