South Africa's former first lady Mrs Marike de Klerk has been found stabbed and strangled in her luxury beachfront flat, police said today.
She is believed to be the latest victim of the country's crime wave.

"It is correct that Mrs de Klerk was murdered. She was strangled to death," police Superintendent Wicus Holtzhausen said after a postmortem earlier today.
Mrs de Klerk (64) ex-wife of former President F.W. de Klerk, was found dead yesterday after she failed to keep an appointment with her hairdresser. Police declined at the time to speculate on the cause of her death.
