Athens - Giant flames engulfed much of Greece yesterday as forest fires raged through the country for a second straight week amid mounting allegations that arsonists were to blame for the inferno.
As fire-fighting planes, army units and thousands of relatives battled the blazes, prosecutors launched an inquiry into official claims that developers, bent on clearing land, are behind the fires. The flames have devoured some 400,000 acres of land including pine and fir forests.
