Football match cancelled over UDA threats

An amateur football match was cancelled in Ballymena, Co Antrim, over the weekend following threats from the UDA.

An amateur football match was cancelled in Ballymena, Co Antrim, over the weekend following threats from the UDA.

According to the secretary of the town's Saturday Morning League, police had warned him that UDA had men planned to go to a match between Harryville Homers and Broadway Celtic.

Harryville Homers are based in the mainly Protestant area of the town, while Broadway Celtic are from the mainly Catholic area.

The league will hold an emergency meeting later this week to discuss the matter.
