A man (20) will appear in court today accused of riotous behaviour after clashes between rival football fans.

He is due before Laganside magistrates to face the charge over the disturbances at the Glentoran and Linfield game in east Belfast.

Around 400 fans spilled onto the pitch at the Oval, Glentoran's home ground, after they beat Linfield with a dramatic late winner in a top-of-the-table clash in Northern Ireland's Premier League on Saturday

Missiles were thrown into a stand before rival fans clashed on the field. Nine police officers and two supporters were injured.

The disturbances have forced the football authorities to review security arrangements at Irish League grounds.
