At least 20 people died in flash floods caused by torrential rain in Morocco's rich farming area of Gharb, the official MAP news agency reported today.

The Oued Bengueribi river burst its banks and flood water swept through a small village near the town of Berrechid, 130 kilometres south of Rabat.

MAP, quoting sources from Berrechid's province, said 11 people were still missing and the death toll could climb.
