THE rumour that the clock had been stolen got it a nice bit of publicity at the beginning of the week, but one story that truly does full into the "you can't have anything in this city but it gets wrecked" category, was the about the very striking piece of sculpture on the traffic island in front of Busarus and the International Financial Services centre.
Designed by artist Tony O'Malley and commissioned by Amnesty, it is a huge ball made from chains, with what was supposed to be an eternal flame flickering away in the middle.
The trouble is that within two weeks of its unveiling, this symbol of hope was vandalised and the flame extinguished. Passing by on Thursday night I saw that it has now been fixed, at what an understandably weary Caroline Greene from Amnesty explains was great and unexpected expense.
