Five people were slightly injured in a shooting attack on a bus near the northern Israeli town of Beit Shean, close to the northeastern frontier with the West Bank, Israeli police said.

A police spokesman said the attack was carried out by a gunman near the Beit Hashita kibbutz.

Police sealed off the area, on the edge of the Jordan Valley, and were searching for the attacker.

The injured were quickly evacuated to hospital.

Police and army radio said initially the bus was hit by a bomb blast.
