Five people were taken to hospital today following a chemical spill at a railway station in Bangor, Co Down.

Five people were taken to hospital today following a chemical spill at a railway station in Bangor, Co Down.

The five, all employees of rail company Translink were taken to hospital after complaining of feeling nauseous when an industrial solvent was spilled while being collected by customers.

The station was closed for a period after the spill which happened when a parcel burst open.

The station remained closed while the Fire Service hosed down the affected area.

The package was being examined, but a Translink spokesman said it was not thought to be a serious incident.

"We're told it is not a terribly dangerous solvent," he said.
