FIVE new cases of BSE were recorded in February, the lowest monthly figure in the past six months, the Department of Agriculture said yesterday when it announced the monthly total. Two cases of the disease were found in Co Monaghan herds, two in Co Cavan herds, and the fifth case was in a suckler herd in Co Galway. The total number of animals found with the disease so far this year is 18, one less than in the corresponding time last year.
