A self-employed singing teacher was fined £1,250 yesterday for failing to make tax returns for five years. Frank Merriman, of North Great George's Street, pleaded guilty to non-return between 1993 and 1997 and received mitigated fines after Dublin District Court heard he had been involved in a partnership breakup. A casual fisherman, Gerard Markham, of Thornville Avenue, Kilbarrack, was fined £750 for failing to make returns between 1993 and 1995 .
A television and video shop owner, Conor Sheridan, of Mill Hill Park, Skerries, received mitigated fines totalling £500 for not making returns between 1995 and 1996 after the court heard he had lost his mother and mother-in-law and both his wife and son had been injured in accidents.
Michael Byrne, a tyre fitter, of Lorcan Avenue, Santry, was fined £1,250 for not making returns between 1992 and 1996. Maria Cullen, a hairdresser, was fined £500 for not making returns in 1995-96.
