The finalists for the 2000 European of the Year Award, given to the Irish person judged to have done the most in the past year to heighten awareness of Europe, have been announced.
The finalists are Mr David Byrne, European Commissioner for Health and Consumer Protection; Mr Pat Cox MEP, chairman of the group of the European Liberal Democratic and Reformist Party; Mr Tommie Gorman, RTE European affairs correspondent; and Mr T.J. Maher, chairman of Bothar and former MEP.
