Files on allegations of sexual and physical abuse dating back to the 1950s against two religious brothers at a Co Offaly reformatory have been sent to the DPP.

The files are part of an investigation into over 50 complaints of abuse at Daingean Reformatory, an industrial school for boys operated by the Oblate Order.

It is believed that a four-strong Garda team based at Tullamore Garda station is investigating complaints against six individuals. The reformatory closed in 1973.
