Fianna Fail has confirmed that it is trying to trace £10,000 of the party's Mayo constituency organisation's funds which is apparently unaccounted for.
Local party activists told Fianna Fail's general secretary, Mr Martin Mackin, last week that the money, the proceeds of a fund-raising golf classic held in the early 1990s, was unaccounted for. The money should have been in the constituency organisation's bank account in Castlebar, Co Mayo, they said.
A Ballyhaunis solicitor, Mr John O'Dwyer, a long-serving member of the party's national executive, is carrying out an investigation.
