The Government was accused by Fianna Fail of cutting expenditure on tourism promotion. The party's tourism spokesman, Mr David Andrews, said the Bord Failte grant was down 10 per cent this year while the grant for development works was down 46 per cent.

The Minister of State for Tourism and Trade, Mr Toddy O'Sullivan, said the Government's programme is aimed at increasing foreign exchange earnings and creating up to 35,000 additional jobs. It was proposed to concentrate on growth outside the peak season and improve service with high quality training programmes.
