An accusation of indecent assault has been made against Manchester United Alex Ferguson, after an "incident" in Cape Town, police sources confirmed.
"Charges have been laid at the Camps Bay police station this morning (Friday) and the case was referred to Sea Point police after an incident involving a high profile British man," Senior Superintendent Mary Martins-Engelbrecht said.
"The case was laid by a woman in her twenties after an incident in a car," she said.
Police sources confirmed, however, that it was 60-year-old Ferguson, who is currently in the country to look at linking up with the Cape Town Football Academy.
Manchester United's communications director, Patrick Harverson told the BBCthe club had "no comment" to make on the issue.
But Ferguson's legal representative, Alex Abercrombie, told the BBCthe allegations were false.
"There's an allegation that Alex touched a woman's leg. But Alex denies any impropriety.
"He is most upset and very concerned that his family and Manchester United have to get embroiled in this," he said.
Ferguson, who was taking advantage of a break from the Premiership because of 2004 European Championship qualifiers, is scheduled to return to England on Sunday.
