Ferdinand saga is on FIFA's agenda today

Rio Ferdinand's missed drugs test will be on world governing body FIFA's agenda when they meet in Zurich today.

Rio Ferdinand's missed drugs test will be on world governing body FIFA's agenda when they meet in Zurich today.

The Manchester United defender is facing an English FA investigation after missing a scheduled drugs test, leading to his omission from England's squad to face Turkey earlier this month.

FIFA will now discuss the matter, with Michel D'Hooghe chairing the medical committee meeting which is scheduled for 2 p.m. today.

He told the Daily Telegraph: "I cannot say what will be the final decision of the committee but the case of Rio Ferdinand is among a number of matters that will be discussed.

"We will look at his case and how it has been addressed already, but there will be no decisions announced or recommendations made until after the meeting."

Ferdinand has already been interviewed by the FA's compliance unit and it is understood that other officials and individuals relevant to the case have been called upon to give statements. The player's mobile phone records are also being examined.

He was selected at random by UK Sport anti-doping officers to take a drugs test at United's Carrington training ground on September 23rd.

But the former Leeds and West Ham player left the facility, later claiming he had forgotten because he was moving house.

He also claims he tried to telephone the club in a bid to have the test later in the day. Ferdinand subsequently passed a test 36 hours later.

If it is found that he is guilty of wilful failure to take the test at the original time he could receive anything up to a two-year competitive ban.
