Rome - A bomb exploded in the Rome offices of a communist newspaper yesterday, prompting the Italian government to warn of a possible wave of politically motivated terrorist attacks.

The device, which went off in the entrance lobby of Il Manifesto shortly after midday (11 a.m. Irish time) injured a known extreme right-wing activist notorious for his antiSemitic views. He was believed to have been carrying the bomb. Mr Andrea Insabato (41) was taken to hospital with serious injuries to his legs and face. Police later searched his home.
